From Denise Karimkhani, Director of Learning Resources
Welcome to Townsend Memorial Library. I hope that you will find it an inviting place, not only for study but for meeting your friends or professors or for relaxing after a grueling test.
You will soon discover that being successful in college requires diligence, persistence, strong study skills, and sometimes an obscure volume of a journal you've never heard of. But don't worry-- even the most intimidating assignment from the most demanding professor is not too much for you to handle, because as a student at UMHB you have the resources of Townsend Memorial Library at your disposal.
Our mission is to provide you with the means to be a successful student as well as a critical thinker. Our library staff consists of six professional librarians and five library paraprofessionals, all working together to help you find the research material you need to do your best at UMHB. Don't know how to get started on your research paper? Ask any of our librarians - we can help you find books on your topic, as well as full-text articles from both popular and scholarly magazines in one of the library's electronic databases.
Once we've pointed you in the right direction, you'll be able to take advantage of the library's wide variety of resources and learning-friendly atmosphere. Spacious reading and study areas are available on both floors, as well as conference rooms that may be reserved for group study sessions. Our library is more than just academics. We offer leisure-reading materials and popular films on DVD.
I encourage you to explore the library and discover the wealth of information available to you here. And always remember-if you need assistance, ask a librarian! We are here to help.
